John Ong Kim Lee was an Associate Professor at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore for 12 years from 01 January 2000. He was appointed Chair of the Department (Academic Group) of Policy and Leadership Studies from 01 July 2005 and for his last one year at the university, he was concurrently appointed as Associate Dean for research. He was Vice-President of the World Educational Research Association (WERA) for four years from 01 July 2012 to 30 June 2016.
Lee Ong Kim obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1992 in the area of Measurement, Evaluation and Statistical Analysis (MESA). His Master degree was from the University of Pittsburgh in the area of Research Methodology, received in 1984 while his first degree, a B.Sc. (Hons), was in Physics from the University of Malaya obtained in 1973. He has conducted training programs for education officers from the Maldives, Vietnam, Indonesia, Pakistan and Malaysia. He has also provided consultancy services to several divisions of the Malaysian Ministry of Education and non-governmental organizations in Malaysia, some schools in Singapore, the Ministry of Education and Youth in the United Arab Emirates, the Ministry of Education of Qatar, the National Institute of Educational Management in Vietnam, the Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Ministry of Education of Kuwait.

Profesor Asociado en el National Institute of Education (NIE) de la Universidad Tecnológica de Nanyang (NTU) de Singapur durante 12 años desde el 1 de enero del 2000. Fue nombrado Director del Grupo Académico en Estudios de Políticas y Liderazgo desde el 1 de Julio de 2005 y en su último año de universidad fue nombrado Decano Asociado en investigación. Fue Vicepresidente de la Asociación Mundial de Investigación Educativa (WERA) durante cuatro años, desde el 1 de Julio de 2012 al 30 de junio de 2016.
Lee Ong Kim es doctor por la Universidad de Chicago en 1992 en el área de Medición, Evaluación y Análisis Estadístico (MESA). Obtuvo un Máster en la Universidad de Pittsburgh en el área de Metodología de la Investigación en 1984. Por otro lado, obtuvo el Grado en Física en 1973 por la University of Malaya. Ha trabajado en programas de formación para personal de educación de Maldivas, Vietnam, Indonesia, Pakistán y Malasia. También ha prestado trabajo de consultoría para varias divisiones del Ministerio de Educación de Malasia y para Organizaciones No Gubernamentales en Malasia, varias escuelas en Singapur, el Ministerio de Educación y Juventud de los Emiratos Árabes Unidos, el Ministerio de Educación de Qatar, el Instituto Nacional de Gestión Educativa en Vietnam, el Ministerio de Educación del Reino de Bahréin y el Ministerio de Educación de Kuwait.
