Fernando Macías Aranda is a member of the technical team of the Integral Plan for the Roma People of the Generalitat de Catalunya, an associate professor at the University of Barcelona and a researcher at the Roma Studies Center (CEG) of CREA-UB.
Macías Aranda holds a PhD in Education and Society (2017) from the University of Barcelona. His doctoral thesis has been developed thanks to a FPI pre-doctoral fellowship. The Contributions of the Roma People for the overcoming of poverty and Anti-Roma through the implementation of Successful Educational Actions.
He holds a Diploma in Education (2011), an Official Master’s Degree in Social and Educational Interventions (2013) and an Official Master’s Degree in Research in Educational Didactics, Training and Evaluation (2014); all this granted by the University of Barcelona. Thanks to the final work of his first Master, Macías Aranda was awarded the “Extraordinary Master Award 2013” by the Faculty of Pedagogy of the University of Barcelona.
Macias Aranda already has numerous scientific publications, some of them indexed in the prestigious JCR database (Journal Citation Report), and is co-author of the book chapter “Making Roma Rights to Reality at the Local Level: A Spanish Case Study”, coordinated from Harvard University by Dr. Jacqueline Bhabha, and Roma academics Andrzej Mirga & Margareta Matache. In addition, Macías Aranda participates since 2011 in different competitive projects funded by the European Union, the Spanish Government or the Government of Catalonia.
Finally, it should be noted that Macías Aranda is one of the founders of CampusRom, the first Roma University Network of Catalonia. This network, which already has a delegation in Aragon and with more than 75 members, is managing to increase the number of Roma people in the universities, thus helping more Roma people to access or maintain higher education. At CampusRom, Macías Aranda is actively helping other Roma like him in his access to the university, and post-compulsory studies, among others.

Macías Aranda es Doctor en Educación y Sociedad (2017) por la Universidad de Barcelona. Su tesis doctoral se centra en las Contribuciones del Pueblo Gitano para la superación de la pobreza y el Antigitanismo a través de la implementación de Actuaciones Educativas de Éxito.
Macías Aranda es Diplomado en Educación (2011), Máster Oficial en Intervenciones Sociales y Educativas (2013) y Máster Oficial en Investigación en Didáctica, Formación y Evaluación Educativa (2014); todo ello otorgado por la Universidad de Barcelona. Gracias al trabajo final de su primer Máster, Macías Aranda fue galardonado con el “Premio Extraordinario de Master 2013” por la Facultad de Pedagogía de la Universidad de Barcelona.
Macías Aranda posee numeras publicaciones científicas, algunas de ellas indexadas en la prestigiosa base de datos JCR (Journal Citation Report), y es coautor del capítulo de libro “Making Roma Rights a Reality at the Local Level: A Spanish Case Study”, coordinado desde la Harvard University por la Dra. Jacqueline Bhabha, y los académicos gitanos Andrzej Mirga & Margareta Matache. Finalmente, cabe destacar que Macías Aranda es uno de los fundadores de CampusRom, la primera Red Gitana Universitaria de Catalunya. Esta red, que ya cuenta con una delegación en Aragón y con más de 75 miembros, está consiguiendo incrementar el número de personas gitanas en las universidades, así con ayudando a que más personas gitanas accedan o se mantengan en la educación superior.
